#1 - Learning to Talk

2

Good morning.

In the first paragraph of his short work “Theme of the Traitor and the Hero,” Jorge Luis Borges writes “…in my idle afternoons I have imagined this story plot which I shall perhaps write someday and which already justifies me somehow.” He continues to describe this “idea” for a story that perhaps he will write but when you finish reading the piece, you realize that he has already written it (and that you’ve already read it).

I imagine that with this newsletter I’ll often be sharing what in some ways feel to me like short musical ideas. It will be like I’m saying to you, “I had an idea for a musical composition. Listen to this. Do you see where I’m going with it?” And if you do, then maybe no elaboration is needed.

Borges tediously reworked his compositions throughout his life. Maybe I’ll rework (and expand and mix and master) some of my music as the years go by. But with this musical newsletter I'm going to share some of what’s on my mind whether it feels finished or not.

I’ve titled this first installment’s piece “Learning to Talk.” Many of the phrases expand upon the previous ones in the way of someone learning and experimenting and becoming more confident.

Have a great day and thanks for being a subscriber.
