#18 - Tangle Jangle

Hello again from Wöhle, Germany, which I struggle to pronounce so that the bus driver can't confirm if he's going there unless I write it down. We’ll be here for another week before heading 4,000 miles further east and 12,000 feet higher in elevation.

“Tangle Jangle” is what I’ve called today’s piece of music. Those unusual arpeggios in fourths played at the beginning and end has my fingers in knots.

As a result, it took me several tries to record this. That’s one thing about most of what I’ve shared in this publication so far: almost everything has been recorded “live” (as opposed to in distinct parts and then edited together). Today was an exception as I re-recorded the last twenty or so seconds due to a mess-up, but normally I’ve been learning what I come up with well enough to record a decent “take” to share here. Often it takes a few tries to capture the specific thing I’m trying to say. If I try long enough and it’s not working out I need to remind myself to walk away for awhile.

In the event I were to more officially release any music in an album one day I’d probably be open to recording individual parts and then editing things together. For now, though, the idea is to get the thing down on paper so to speak.

I played around with a filter somewhere in the middle of the song, which you’ll probably notice when the tone changes.

I look forward to noodling around with another piece of music to share on Tuesday. See you then!
