It’s Friday and that means I’m here with a musical contribution to your day, and a few thoughts about “where I stand” with respect to this piece of music.
“Pendulum” has about eight distinct parts including a couple which repeat at the beginning and the end. I hope they flow together seamlessly. One thing that probably helps in this regard is that the left hand maintains a steady string of four-note arpeggios. The steadiness helps carry one section into the next regardless of what’s happening over on the right hand. That's the idea anyway.
It can be challenging to maintain consistent pace in this kind of music, when your mind is busy considering hand positions and other elements of a composition. A few times when I attempted to record this I found that I was playing much faster at the end of the piece than where I’d started. I think I mostly got that under control in the version I’ve shared. That being said, I think it would be interesting to experiment with tempo changes here, more specifically a kind of swelling up and down in tempo at certain places. See what you think.
I hope you have a great weekend.
