Like much of the information our brains process each day, the meaning and our enjoyment of the sounds we hear in music come from context. With today’s piece there’s something strange and fun for me about each part in relation to the others. An opening major chord immediately gives way to a softer, stranger sort of melody carried by much lower notes. Those peculiar phrases give way to long, floating arpeggios…
