Hello from Wöhle, Germany where we’ll be WWOOFing for the next three weeks.
To a certain extent I’m sure visiting new places inspires creativity but I’ve learned that having a routine is even more essential to the creative process. As we’ve moved around over the past year during this sort of career break, I’ve looked for whatever kind of consistency I can find in each new place we go. Happily we’ll have a somewhat set schedule for helping out here in Wöhle and I’ve got a little work space for music.
When I started noodling around with what I’ve shared today it immediately felt like part of the musical, Bureaucratic, that I introduced to you a few weeks ago. You may notice this same little rhythmic motif from the other songs:
This also kind of felt like an exercise in how much can be built around a single bass note, as there’s not a whole lot of variation in that area.
For the first few months of this newsletter I’ve relied heavily on having a stockpile of short, recorded ideas to build upon but seeing as none of those ideas are jumping out at me these days I’m going to have to build up the stockpile again. As such I have no idea what I’ll be sharing with you in the coming weeks. I promise I’ll be working on something though!
